Shame

Quote of the day: "Naturally when you're applying to college you're looking at how your genetic status might help you". What kind of a sick age do we live in that he felt comfortable saying that publicly, and attaching his name to it???? Shame on him, and us.

See, this is a good argument as to why affirmative action should either be changed to be based on class (i.e. financial standing), or eliminated outright.

It also shows that people really don't understand DNA. It's not the smoking gun that people think it is. For example, that woman with 10% British Isles markers who is suing for a castle really doesn't understand what she's reading. What it's saying is that there is roughly a 10% PROBABILITY that she has SOME ancestry in that general area. It doesn't indicate which clan her ancestor belonged to (hugely important in that society), whether or not her ancestor would have merited a castle of his own, and why the current owners of those castles should give a flying fuck about her. Put another way, you're looking at one noodle on a giant plate of pasta. Once the margin of error is factored in, it's entirely possible that she might not have any ancestry there.

It's a shame that the affirmative action programmes, etc. have forced people to resort to such patently absurd methods...
