The Mad Doctor Takes the Helm

It looks as if Howard Dean is going to be DNC chairman. Certainly Dean's leadership will not involve what I believed would have been a disastrous political move by the Democrats: the shift toward a more conservative stance on abortion rights that Tim Roemer's candidacy suggested. Still, I wish there had been more alternatives. I think Richard Bond probably summarizes it best:

Richard Bond, the former head of the Republican National Committee, said: "He's a very capable guy, he's got high energy, but he will reinforce all of their worst instincts. His style and message is one that will narrow his party's options rather than expand them."

Are we indeed seeing the Democrats emerge as a permanent minority party?
