Recent Controversies

Maybe this resonates with me in light of recent thinking about the Larry Summers and Ward Churchill controversies, but I found this great quote by Salman Rushdie:

"What is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist."

While we're at it, here is another one of my favorites from him: "A man without a belly has no appetite for life."

And no, I didn't make that up. Its on page 273 of The Moor's Last Sigh.
