A glorious October day
Today we (Trang and I + our friend and neighbor Souwany) visited Brinkley Farms. We are members of their CSA, a move that has opened up a nearly yearly supply of the most wonderful seasonal vegetables, as well as wonderful free range meats (their breakfast links are not only the best tasting I have experienced, but also make for a very nice and easy cooking experience on an early Sunday morning: they are perfectly packed, and cook nicely and evenly without any strange bending or curling). This was their "open farm" day. After wandering around an entrance building which featured gorgeous pumpkins, chicks and piglets, we took a hayride around the farm, which is a really wonderful example of tradition and change: Brinkley Farms was a tobacco farm that responded to the decline of that business by building a balanced, diverse organic farming operation. The weather was perfect.
