A Fight! A Fight! OMG IT'S A FIGHT!!!
One of the big stories this weekend in our neck of the woods was a fight that occurred Saturday night at Triangle Town Center mall (a big, fairly new mall in northwest Raleigh; for those with some knowledge of the area, it is just inside the 540 belt line at Capital Blvd.). From the outset, reports have suggested a significant number were "associated" with the melee, but as Sunday wore on the estimates in the press swelled, prompting the following priceless exchange this morning between two DJs on one of the local radio stations:
DJ#1: So we've all heard about the brawl at Triangle Town Center this weekend, and in a few minutes we'll have a caller on the line who witnessed it. Reports of the numbers involved keep swelling. At first it was a few dozen, then yesterday like a hundred, and this morning some local papers are saying was like 100-150 on each side-
DJ#2 (cutting in and deadpanning): I heard it was 40,000 total.
DJ#2 (continuing with the deadpan, with the laughter and clapping of DJ#1 in the background): Oh yeah, we need to take this seriously. It's time to panic and over-react. My source, who is close to the Raleigh PD and hasn't exaggerated in days, tells me it happened exactly like the big battle scene in Braveheart ... "It is as it was" he explained in a mysterious voice...
Later on the caller went on to explain that he guessed that at most 100-150 were associated with the brawl, with more than 90 percent of them mere spectators.
So that places the number of combatants at at most 10-15.
Nice job again, local media.
