The Great Eames Debate

Well, the wife and I are thinking about getting an Eames lounge chair and ottoman. This is, after all, the 50th anniversary of this masterpiece of American design. The crucial question is: what wood?

The main contenders are:

Walnut

Santos palisander

The wife and I have differing views on the subject. What do you think? (Obviously, failure to agree with my choice will force a complete re-appraisal of my relationship with you).

Update

The wife has explored the site Justin recommended, and has thrown another contender into the ring:

Cherry

Hmm, I had no idea there was a choice. Turns out there are lots.

I vote walnut. I like the less intrusive grain.

Well, my first vote would be for cherry, because I love cherry wood. However, if that's not an option (due to other decor in the house), I'd go with walnut. Something about that middle one just doesn't do it for me (of course, if that chair were to be placed in your office, it would probably go fine). The main question is, which chair would look good with Louie & Daisy's hair on it? :-) In short, my picks are:

1. Cherry
2. Walnut
3. Santos Palisander

I'm definitely a fan of cherry in my other wood choices, but I think in the context of that chair, it's two "pretty", and dare I say it, too feminine. Hence my vote for the darker walnut.

Another question is what colour are you thinking about for the upholstery? I like the cherry wood, but I'm not such a fan of the black upholstery (besides, the dogs' hair will show all the more on it that way). Maybe walnut is a better fit if you can customise some of that.

If the dog's jump up on this they will be killed or, worse still (from their standpoint), taken in to the vets for a species change operation to turn them into cats.

Oh come on, man. That's what you said about the sofa, the pappasan chair, that loveseat/chair you had that went with the sofa, and your bedroom furniture. Look what happened. You're no match for those dogs' sheer stubborness (which, I admit, is definitely saying something) :-)
