The Plantagenets of Hazard

Last night I had Plantagenet's Hazard Hill 2004 Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc (Western Australia). The wine is packed with beautiful aromas of citrus, flowers, lime and, dammit, I picked up faint apricots (even if no one else did). It is crisp on the palate, where one picks up the lime and citrus, as well as a very nice, subtle minerality.

Their shiraz has temendous aromas. It opens up with a blast of cherry (the kind you associate with cherry-vanilla ice cream) and raspberry. As it gets more air, something almost like strawberries and watermellon starts to assert itself. The aromas are so nice that the wine is almost a let down on the palate (though only comparatively-it is a very nice shiraz).

Finally, I highly recommend Zuccardi Tempranillo (2001, Mendoza Argentina). Just beautiful, with restrained tannins. On the nose you get a very woodsy experience, with tobacco, mushrooms, forest berries and very nicely controlled tannins.

You can buy all three for $30-35 total.

rada,
They have a site, including a where to buy page that mentions a US distributor, at
http://www.plantagenetwines.com/wheretobuy.html
I got the wine at Southern Season in NC (http://www.southernseason.com/). I have also heard of people finding it at places like Total Wine and Beverage.
